Oy

Tuesday, January 5, 2010
So I'm in something of a pickle. I came to stay at my friends house tonight so that we can go to work together tomorrow (save gas and all) and while I made it inside all right I can't get into the bedroom that I'm gonna be sleeping in. They leave the house door unlocked usually because the roommates key doesn't work very well in the door. I searched her room as best I could with the blue light from my cell phone and still couldn't find her keys. First you should probably know that she lives with her boyfriend and sleeps in his room but she has her own room upstairs where she keeps most of her things. Very smart I think. Well she doesn't want people to just walk into her room so she put a door lock on it. One problem she only has one key and it is playing hide and seek with me. Guess what! Its winning, cheater! So now I am just messing around on the net hoping she will wake up before her boyfriend gets home at 2am from work. I did not sleep last night and would love the chance to lay down on an actual bed and not a couch. And the phone just rang and I hope it didn't wake her. Only did it once though. What amazes me is how loud the keys on a keyboard can be when a house is dead quiet. Hmmm. Odd. Haha. I went and saw one of my ex's today. Turns out he is still hooked on me. Which is rather weird because I never really was his type. I never really know what to do in these situations. I have moved on but he thinks he can change my mind. Who knows. I am starting to wish I had brought a book or something with me to entertain me more, but then I never thought she would be asleep when I got here. Such is life tho. Maybe I'll do some book reviews. :)

My Addiction

Waldenbooks loved me two Saturdays ago. Sadly our Waldenbooks in Pensacola is closed which of course means SALE!!! I went with my grandparents just to go buy a book or two and left with One Hundred Dollars worth of books. Its insane I wasn't even in there for over an hour. The fault is completely theirs. For you see they had all the books in a trilogy that I had been looking at along with another trilogy and some loose books that go with a series I have. So as you can see it is their fault and I'm sticking to that belief! After we left there we preceded to go to Books A Million who just have to have bargain carts outside for $5, $3, and $1. How can you refuse that. Then when you walk in you're bombarded with bargain tables. It really is a conspiracy. I ended up buying 9 more books there. I should probably mention that all the books I bought were paperback so they were somewhat cheap but still that's more books than I needed as my grandmother said. One can never have too many books because one shall never know what one wants to read at all time, therefore one should have a large variety at hand at all times. At least that is what I think. My room on the other hand disagrees because it is running over with books. Both my bookcases are full of books, books are on the floor, on the bed, on the dresser, and on the desk. I really shouldn't need more but I really can't help it. I'm just as bad on my ereader. The thing is already over half way full and it holds 350 books. I did find this wonderful file that holds numerous paranormal romance series in it. I have only put a couple files onto my reader though. I fear at this rate I should never be able to buy more books again. Or if I do I shall have to buy them myself and go broke doing so. For I shall of that I can assure you.

I've Been Slacking

I realized I haven't written in awhile and I'm sorry. The bookstore that I work at has moved to a larger and nicer place. I love the new location and hopefully we will have more customers now that we are no longer downstairs. My other job has just started to take inventory today and I was lucky enough to have the day off. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Years. I only asked for two things for Christmas and received both plus some extra things, clothes and such. I now have an XBox 360 and a Sony Touch Edition Ereader. I am absolutely in love with both!! I will play my XBox while I download books for my ereader. While this is an excellent way to spend my free time it has now cut into my sleeping hours which were already messed up to begin with. I now have gotten into the habit where I don't finished either till 8am or so. So I just stay up all day and then go to sleep at around 6am the next morning. This morning was one of those morning. My laptop is grateful for the rest that I can tell you. It has been busy on and off all night/morning downloading books and putting them on the ereader. I eventually finished and stayed up reading till just a few minutes ago when I noticed that the rest of my family was finally waking up to start their day. I few errands to run today and hopefully will be able to have lunch at Ace's (one of our amazing little restaurants) with some family.

I Did It Again!

Sunday, August 30, 2009
So after a fabulous lunch at Texas Roadhouse today I proceeded to go to our local used bookstore with my grandma. Our little bookstore is actually quite amazing. We have an antique store in our old downtown post office building. You know the old school deal with the brick building and a basement. Pretty neat I know. The name is The River Bank Used Book Store sounds comfty to me, crazy I know. They have a pretty awesome offer where when you buy a book or ten (like me) they give you a business card with 30 numbers on it and every time you spend $5 you get a punch and after 30 punches you get 15% off your next purchase. I love deals like these they always make me go back for more. Haha. Well I'm forgetful so I have 3 cards with a total of 16 punches. So close I can't wait...but wait I'm off topic now. Back to my tale I go there with my grandma and we browse for a couple hours. Well like any good shopper we both have a book limit of 6 books each. And poor OCD me has a list of my series that are incomplete. A page and a half actually and I love when they have them. So I walk out with 5 more then I should have to give me 11 more books to go in TBR pile. These are the books that I bought today:
  • The Duke Next Door & Duke Most Wanted by Celeste Bradley which are Book 2 and 3 in The Heiress Brides Trilogy.
  • To Wed A Scandalous Spy & One Night With A Spy by Celeste Bradley which are Book 1 and 3 in The Royal Four Series.
  • Rules of Engagement, Rules of Attraction, In My Wildest Dreams, & My Favorite Bride by Christina Dodd which are Book 2, 3, 4, and 6 of The Governess Brides Series.
  • Beyond the Highland Mist & Spell of the Highlander by Karen Marie Moning which are Book 1 and 7 of the Highlander Series.
  • The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever by Julia Quinn.

BookBrowse Quiz

Saturday, August 29, 2009
So I've heard from some of the blogs that I follow about this quiz on BookBrowse that tells you what your book personality is so I thought I'd give it a shot and guess what the results are true for me. My personality is I'm an All-Rounder type reader.

My responses showed I fit into three different personalities:
  • Involved Reader: You don't just love to read books, you love to read about books. For you, half the fun of reading is the thrill of the chase - discovering new books and authors, and discussing your finds with others.
  • Serial Reader: Once you discover a favorite writer you tend to stick with him/her through thick and thin.
  • Eclectic Reader: You read for entertainment but also to expand your mind. You're open to new ideas and new writers, and are not wedded to a particular genre or limited range of authors.

Which these three things are so true when I look at my bookshelves. Here's the link if you want to give it a shot. http://www.bookbrowse.com/quiz/

Books

Tuesday, August 18, 2009
Ok so my plan totally went off the tracks this morning. I got to the bookstore atleast 20 minutes early. Traffic was nonexistent this morning very odd. When they finally let me in they didn't have the shelf set up for the Dreamfever so I walked around for about 30 minutes looking for my four other books. Well I was only able to find two of them, Private Places by Rona Schone and Harstairs House by Amanda Grange. So I told myself I could deal with that. They finally had the new books set up so I walked to the front only to see that Dreamfever only had 20% off in the store. I knew right that moment that I should of ordered it online. Oh well. I came back to town early and had two whole lonely hours to spend before work so I stopped by our used bookstore downtown and went to browse around. Big mistake for my checkbook. I left there with 5 more books. I really couldn't afford them but they went with a series I have. So I eventually made my way to work only to remember why one should have more than 3 hours of sleep. Haha. Well i'm off to read dreamfever, I shall report to ya'll when i'm done and also tell you the other 5 books i got at the UB.

Book Restlessness

Ok so in less then 6 1/2 hours I will walk into Books-A-Million and pick up a freshly printed Dreamfever and I will carefully open up the cover and flip to the middle and smell the delicious book smell that only truely new books have. (Yes, I am aware that I am crazy and that that sounds totally luny, and you know what I dont care. Yes, I completely embrace the craziness.) After absorbing that unique smell I will gently and carefully hold my book while I make my way back to the Bargain Book section and start my carefully planned out search. For you see I, Amanda Mae, intend to buy not only Dreamfever but four other books also for all under $30.00. Yes I do sound insane and trust me I worked hard to pick out the books that interest me the most and yet are relatively cheap. BAMM says that for members only they will sell the book for 46% off. When I heard this I jumped so high from excitement I almost went through the roof. (Well not really but I think you know what I mean.) For you see this book is $26 but with that wonderful 46% off it comes to a grand total of $14.04. If you are not a member at BAMM do not fret for at Borders they have it 30% off which only comes to $18.20. Which should bright up your day as it has mine. The only sad part to this wonderful day is work. For at 12 I will have to venture out into the real world for 3 1/2 hours, which as all us avid readers know it means that I cannot start my new book until I return home and can lock my bedroom door and bunker down for however many hours it takes me to read it. Maybe even twice. I so cannot await the hour when I may do just that. Well you may be asking yourselves what about the other books I mentioned, well let me tell you about them. If the BAMM website is to be completely trusted these should be the prices of the books if they are on the bargain tables. And to the dear Lord I pray they are.

The Jane Austen Book Club
by Karen Joy Fowler
Publisher: Plume Books
Pub. Date: August 28, 2007
BAMM Price: $2.67

Description thanks to B&N:

In California's central valley, five women and one man join to discuss Jane Austen's novels. Over the six months they get together, marriages are tested, affairs begin, unsuitable arrangements become suitable, and love happens. With her eye for the frailties of human behaviour and her ear for the absurdities of social intercourse, Karen Joy Fowler has never been wittier nor her characters more appealing. The result is a delicious dissection of modern relationships.

-For this one I am very excited. I have seen the movie numerous times but have just never read the book. I truely would hate to buy it just so it can land on my TBR pile and never be seen again, but with a price like this how can I resist.

Well, they all sound good to me and I just hope the prices are the same when I get there. As I read them I will post my thoughts for you to read.

Maybe now that i've written some I can sleep. Doubtful but i'll try.

Dreamfever Excerpt

Sunday, August 16, 2009
KMM finally put out the audio excerpt on her blog and boy oh boy is it good. I'm pretty sure I know who the main man is and even who the man in the dream is, but it is going to drive me crazy till I can get my hands on it and read it! Natalie Ross and Phil Gigante do an excellent job reading as the voices. Natalie sounds almost exactly like Mac in my head and I can just imagine Barons sounding like Phil. So good. If you want to hear for yourself here is the website: http://www.karenmariemoning.blogspot.com/. It is about 15 minutes so you are warned. I pretty much had my ear to the speaker the whole time and I did listen to it three times. Haha. So enjoy. Two more days!

Dreamfever Craving!

Saturday, August 15, 2009
I so cannot wait for this to come out. I have been on the edge of my seat ever since I finished the third one. I tried to be generous with my best friend and lend her the first two books so she could see why I am so in love with JZB right now. Well her dad decided to get them a little german shepherd puppy. Well her mom doesn't like dogs so her dad give my bf the puppy. Well her name is princess and she is so spoiled. One problem with princess though, she loves to chew on books and guess which books she chewed. My beloved Darkfever and Bloodfever. Oiw!! So now I am not able to read them over in the next couple days. I think I actually had a tear when I saw what happened. So I am having to deal with just rereading the third one, which is still driving me crazy! But for those of you who haven't read the series yet let me just say you should run to the store and buy them as fast as you can. You will fall in love with Mac. Personally I like Mac 2.0 better than just plain Mac. She will grow on you in a way that makes you think she is your sister and you just want to rush over there to help her. I am all for HEA and we all know I am for her and JZB. That man is sexy i dont care who you are. He is much better than V'Lane. But I'm going off topic here. There is adventure around every turn and enough sexual tension that you will be wound tight as a wire. And if that right there isn't enough to get your attention we have the wonderfully sexy and deadly Fae to drool over. A queen who no one has seen in forever and a King that wants to escape. It is enough to keep you holding on to your seat just so you don't jump up and say "just do it already". That is speaking from personal experience. Haha. People look at you like you're crazy when you do that. Hehee. So far I give all 3 books 5 stars. *****

Yum, simply cannot wait!

Let me just start with YUM *grabs a Kleenex for the drool*. I love this cover. I have read the past three books and they are extremely good but I think this one will be my favorite just because of the cover. Although if the reading isn't as good as our man here this cover will atleast be my fav cover. Winter Kiss is due out by November 3 of this year so I'm excited to see how the story will continue. Delaney has finally come front and center and gotten his own book. In this tale he has vowed to destroy the Dragon's Blood Elixir. Well he never expects to have his own firestorm happen while he is on his quest. So now we must wait and see if he succeeds in detsroying the Elixir and keeping his one love Ginger Sinclair. That name just sounds fiesty to me so I already know shes gonna give him one hell of a time. Haha

Just Letting You See

This is the way I'd do it...
I feel as if I should have that sign at my work...
Ahh, I miss those days, jk...
I'm just showing you the facts...
Wonder who would do this...
Makes me kinda sad to see it over *tear*...
And yet the sad truth of it all, this does happen everyday all the time...

Once again just speculating and sharing.

Makes You Think

Why couldn't they have had that in place when I was a kid?
Makes you wonder what went wrong with the world?...
Then I see this and I understand somewhat...Maybe parents should of done this more often and left a nanny with them...
But this is all me just speculating. Haha

Somedays...

Somedays this is what it feels like when I'm on my way to work...

Other days I run into this...

On those specials day when I'm running really late I get this...

Hello

Ok so I haven't had one of these for a good long bit so I'm gonna see if I can keep up with this one. I hope to start putting up my thoughts and opinions of books that I'm reading and have read or plan to read. I always find it helpfully to see what other people think of books and authors. If you don't like what I say I'm sorry. I'm not putting this up to please you just to let you have access to anothers opinion. I hope to make some new friends on here and just go with the flow and see where that leads me. If you have a book you would like to recommend I am all for it. I love to read new authors to see if I like them or not. I do have an account on shelfari (http://www.shelfari.com/sexyreader) so you are welcome to stop by there to see what I read and who knows you may join. I read every type of genre really. Mainly i am into romance and the paranormal, I don't have a problem with trying new books. Well thats all I can think of right now for this part.
